BUREAU OF ELECTIONS SCHEDULES POLL WORKER ORIENTATION CLASSES

Certification classes for presiding poll judges and orientation classes for poll workers have been scheduled in Las Cruces, Anthony, Chaparral and Hatch.

As the June 6 Primary Election draws closer, Doña Ana County Clerk Rita Torres is urging registered voters to sign up to work the polls. Training classes continue through May 20.

Mandatory certification classes for presiding judges will be held at the Doña Ana County Courthouse at 251 W. Amador Ave., in the Doña Ana County Commission Chambers on the second floor. Trainings will be offered from 1-3 p.m. on April 29, May 6, May 13 and May 20. Trainings will be offered from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on May 11 and May 18. In Anthony, certification classes for presiding judges will occur at the Anthony Community Center at 875 N. Main St. from 6-8 p.m. on May 17 and May 19.

Training for poll workers also has been scheduled.

Poll worker classes in Las Cruces will occur at the Doña Ana County Courthouse at 251 W. Amador Ave., in the Doña Ana County Commission Chambers on the second floor. Trainings will be offered from 10 a.m. to noon on April 22 and 29; from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on April 22 and April 29; and from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on April 25 and 27 and May 3

All Anthony classes will occur at the Anthony Community Center at 875 N. Main St. Trainings will be offered from 6-8 p.m. on April 26 and May 1, 12 and 15.

All Hatch classes will occur at the Hatch School Band Room at 305 Main St. Trainings will be offered from 6-8 p.m. on April 24 and May 2.

A class in Chaparral will be held at the Dolores Wright Park from 6-8 p.m. on May 8.

All classes are open to any interested persons. To become a poll worker, a resident must complete one of the two-hour classes. Class sizes are limited, so calling ahead is advised.

Each poll worker and standby poll worker chosen to work on Election Day will receive $100 for attending the training and working on Election Day. Those certified to serve as presiding judges at the polls will receive a total of $150.
