CRIMINAL COMPLAINT CHARGES JAIL-SLAYING SUSPECT WITH FIRST-DEGREE MURDER

A criminal complaint filed today in Doña Ana County Magistrate Court charges Dominic M. Montoya, 29, of Las Cruces with first-degree murder, possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner and tampering with evidence, all felonies.

Montoya is the suspect in the April 2 murder of Doña Ana County Detention Center inmate Adam E. Avalos, 29, of Las Cruces.

The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office will pursue prosecution of the case. Effective immediately, all media requests for information related to the case and its prosecution will be referred to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office at (505) 524-6370.
