EVANS NAMED TO NACo HOMELAND SECURITY TASK FORCE

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- District 4 County Commissioner D. Kent Evans has been appointed to the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Homeland Security Task Force. He attended his first meeting as a member of the task force on Friday, March 3 during the NACo national conference.

Evans attended a forum titled, “Crisis management: Is your county prepared for the unthinkable?”

“I’m honored to be a member of this task force,” Evans said. “As we learned on Sept. 11, 2001, local response and preparedness are key factors in mobilizing resources when an act of terror occurs. Our task force will, of course, look at prevention, but we must also face the grim possibility that local communities will come under terrorist attacks. Our best defense is a strong plan of response that maximizes resources and people in a way that restores stability and normalcy as quickly as possible.”

As a member of the task force, Evans will work closely with county officials from all over the United States as they evaluate existing preparedness plans and bring home ideas and strategies that have shown effectiveness elsewhere.
