ELKS LODGE NAMES COMMISSIONER EVANS ‘CITIZEN OF THE YEAR’

District 4 County Commissioner D. Kent Evans has been named ‘Citizen of the Year’ by Las Cruces Elks Lodge #1119.

At its annual awards ceremony, the Elks announced that Evans was chosen from a field of 10 local nominees. The award recognizes strong local leadership within the community and a willingness to work one-on-one within Doña Ana County’s diverse communities. A committee of Elks members reviews the community contributions of the nominees and then selects the most qualified to receive the award.

“I’m honored to be chosen for this award by such an outstanding civic group as the Las Cruces Elks,” Evans said. “In the last year, I’ve been privileged to be named the Republican Elected Official of the Year by the National Association of Counties and to have received the Ronald Reagan Gold Medal Award for service, but to be recognized as Citizen of the Year right here at home by the Elks Lodge is a special honor that humbles me greatly. I am most appreciative.”

In announcing their selection and bestowing the award, the Elks cited Evans for his leadership positions at the local, regional and national levels, as well as his support of community initiatives within his commission district, including the establishment of new parks in Doña Ana and Butterfield Park. They also recognized his contributions to economic development in the region, including his ongoing support of the proposed spaceport north of Las Cruces.
