FOUR-WAY STOP IN PLAY FOR TAYLOR ROAD/EL CAMINO REAL INTERSECTION

The Doña Ana County Engineering Office will post four-way stop signs at the intersection of Taylor Road and El Camino Real. The new signs will go up on March 1, 2006.

Commuters who regularly use the intersection will notice signs on Feb. 1 warning that the change is coming. On March 1, 48-inch stop signs will be installed, and the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department will begin enforcement.

The change is spurred by an increasing number of accidents at the intersection as traffic in the area increases. Since 1998, more than 20 accidents have been recorded. Part of the problem is a line-of-sight issue for east-bound drivers who want to turn north on Taylor Road. Trees along the side of the road often obstruct the view of oncoming traffic.
