CHAPARRAL RESIDENTS WILL VOTE ON INCORPORATION

CHAPARRAL RESIDENTS WILL VOTE ON INCORPORATION

The Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners has voted unanimously to schedule a Jan. 3 election for the residents of Chaparral to determine whether a new city will be born in Doña Ana County.

The Doña Ana County Clerk's Office and the Doña Ana County Assessor's Office presented financial information to the commission indicating that the proposed incorporation would meet minimum financial limits imposed by the Legislature to allow a municipality to operate. The Doña Ana County Planning Department and a contracted census-taker presented information indicating that the population within the proposed municipal boundaries also meets the minimum criteria established by state statute.

Residents within the proposed municipal boundaries will go to the polls on Tuesday, Jan. 3. 2006, to determine whether to incorporate.

Residents of the affected area who wish to vote must be registered voters within Doña Ana County. Unregistered voters have until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005 to register if they wish to qualify to participate in the incorporation election.
