COUNTY’S HEALTH BUILDING CLOSED DUE TO GASOLINE LEAK

The Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department at 125 W. Boutz Road was evacuated this morning when employees reported a strong odor of gas.

As a precaution, county facility crews shut off the building’s heaters. Utility crews from the City of Las Cruces checked the building for natural gas leaks and discovered leaking gasoline from a piece of equipment owned by the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department and stored in a garage area of the building.

The building will remain closed today while the odor is cleared out. Heaters will be reactivated when the fumes have dispersed.

Employees who work in the building were sent home or to other county office buildings. The building is expected to reopen for business as usual at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29.
