EVANS ELECTED PRESIDENT OF RIO GRANDE COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS

D. Kent Evans, vice-chairman of the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners, has been elected President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Rio Grande Council of Governments, a voluntary association of local governments in west Texas and southern New Mexico.

Evans was elected at the organization’s annual membership meeting in El Paso on Friday, Sept. 9, 2005. During the meeting, representatives of member governments were elected to serve terms on the board of directors.

Ray Rodriguez, a member of the Socorro ISD Board of Trustees, was elected first vice-president, and John Cook, mayor of the City of El Paso, was elected second vice-president. Outgoing President Jerry Agan, was honored for his past and continuing service on the Board of Directors.

Since 2001, Commissioner Evans has worked tirelessly with his southern New Mexico and west Texas colleagues on the Rio Grande Council of Governments’ Board of Directors to promote regional cooperation between governmental entities in the provision of services and in planning for the future needs of our linked communities. A member of the Executive Committee of the US/Mexico Border Counties Coalition, Commissioner Evans brings a broad perspective on regional cooperation to his service as president and chairman of the board of directors.

Jake Brisbin, Jr., Executive Director of the Rio Grande Council of Governments, also presented several awards to individuals and organizations for their outstanding efforts towards furthering regional intergovernmental cooperation and exemplifying the ideals of public service.
