COUNTY WEB SITE TO FEATURE SPANISH TRANSLATION ON SELECTED PAGES

Beginning Friday, May 20, 2005, the Doña Ana County website will feature a tab on the home page (www.co.dona-ana.nm.us) that will allow users to navigate in Spanish through most pages on the website.

Clicking on the tab will bring up a Spanish version of the home page. Navigation from that point will bring users to the Spanish pages. Pages that have not been translated will come up in English with a note in Spanish explaining that the page has not yet been translated.

Beginning in February, Geof Abruzzi and Efrain Saenz of the county’s Information Technology staff coordinated most of the translation project. Working with a contractor, Saenz identified the most commonly used portions of the web site and concentrated on making services available in both English and Spanish.

New pages and internal links posted from this point forward will be translated according to Saenz’s schedule. As he has time to devote to them, he will continue to translate pages. Priority will be given to pages that provide information about county services, commission meetings and rural initiatives.

Doña Ana County launched a completely overhauled website on Friday, March 18.

Information Technology Director Anna Peralta Hines and her staff reformatted the web site to make it more attractive, easier to search and consistent in appearance across all departments.
