COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER RE-OPENS IN VILLAGE OF DOÑA ANA

A grand re-opening of the Doña Ana Community Resource Center will be held Thursday, March 17, from 6-8 p.m. The center is located at 5745 Ledesma Dr., in the heart of the Village of Doña Ana.

Sponsored by the Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department, the grand re-opening signifies a new era for the community center. Beginning in April, the center will host a broad range of nutrition courses, arts and crafts classes, diabetes-awareness programs and other programs related to the health and social needs of the community. Currently, the center provides free lunches to seniors (over 50), free assistance for tax preparation, and occasional free dental screenings. The next dental screening is planned for Tuesday, March 29, from 2-4 p.m.

As part of the grand re-opening, free food will be served at the center from 6-7 p.m., followed by a presentation of new services and programs that the center will provide to the community. After the presentation, several prizes will be given away, including children's bikes, toys and piñatas, most of which were provided by the management team of Wal-Mart on Valley Drive in Las Cruces.

On hand at the event will be county employees, AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteers, community volunteers, and representatives of several outside agencies with which the county coordinates services and programs for community centers across the county. Among the organizations represented will be Ben Archer Health Center, Las Cruces Public Schools, Action For Youth and Doña Ana Branch Community College.

Other activities planned for the event include free diabetes screening and face painting.
