AREA AGENCIES SERVE SEAFOOD TO RAISE MONEY

Law enforcement officers and firefighters from area agencies will serve lunch and dinner on Friday, March 18, at the Las Cruces Red Lobster restaurant in order to raise money for the New Mexico Special Olympics.

The "Cops and Lobsters" annual event will feature officers from the following agencies: Doña Ana County Detention Center, New Mexico State Mounted Patrol and the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s, City of Las Cruces Codes, Las Cruces Police and Sunland Park Police departments.

The officers will assist Red Lobster wait staff in their serving duties and talking to restaurant patrons about the Special Olympics. All tip proceeds will benefit the New Mexico Special Olympics.

The Doña Ana County Detention Center has raised the most money for the charity in the last three years' events. Lt. Sal Betancourt, of the detention center, said the rivalry among agencies to raise the most money really benefits the program.

Officers and firefighters will be serving from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Red Lobster is located at 575 S. Telshor Blvd.

For more information, call Grant A. Taylor of the county’s Public Information Office at (505) 647-7290. Anyone calling from outside the Las Cruces area may call toll-free at 1-877-827-7200 and request extension 7290.
