TORTUGAS COMMUNITY PARK TO HOLD BREAK GROUND OCT. 8

A groundbreaking ceremony has been scheduled for Guadalupe Park in Tortugas on Friday, Oct 8 from 3-4 p.m.

The ceremony will be held on 3.5 acres at 380 Juan Diego Road. Among those invited to speak at the event are Sen. Mary Kay Papen, who secured $250,000 in state funding for the park, District 3 Commissioner Paul B. Curry and Frank Torres of the Tortugas Community Association.

Blanchard Engineering has completed design of the park, and Doña Ana County will continue to act as fiscal agent through the construction and equipment phases. Greenhouse Nursery has secured the construction contract. Once construction gets underway, the park could open as early as January of 2005.

Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited.
