DOÑA ANA COUNTY TO HOST COMMUNITY RESOURCE FAIR IN CHAPARRAL

Several county departments are making plans to take their information and services on the road for a community resource fair from 4 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Chaparral Multipurpose Center on County Line Road.

In addition to a wealth of information about services offered by the respective departments, the event will feature free refreshments, learning opportunities and free childcare for those who choose to attend.

The Chaparral event is the second in a series of planned community resource fairs through which residents of rural communities are encouraged to meet, greet and quiz county employees. Among the topics to be addressed Sept. 8 are: 1) Employment opportunities within the county, how to apply and how the hiring process works; 2) Preparing your family for an emergency; 3) The property tax system, including information about how taxes are calculated and why they periodically rise; 4) Legal trash disposal; and 5) Environmentally safe ways to control mosquito larvae and combat West Nile virus in rural areas.

Participating county departments signed up so far include the Assessor’s Office, Community Development, Emergency Management, Engineering, Environmental, Fire Marshal, Flood, General Services, Health and Human Services, Human Resources, Roads and Utilities. Other county departments are expected to sign up before the event.

Handouts and other informational material will be distributed free to all interested parties, and county staff will be happy to address concerns, complaints and questions across a broad variety of community issues.
