COUNTY FILLS DETENTION ADMINISTRATOR, FIRE MARSHAL POSITIONS

Doña Ana County Manager Brian D. Haines has announced the hiring of Jesse David ‘Dave’ Wooley as Detention Center administrator and Alfred Paul Chavez as county fire marshal. Both began work for Doña Ana County on Aug. 23, 2004.

Wooley comes to Doña Ana County from Grand Junction, Colo., where he was detention center administrator and undersheriff for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department. He was responsible there for the overall management and supervision of a jail with more than 100 employees and a $14 million annual budget. He held the position for nine years.

Wooley, a veteran of the U.S. Army, earned his bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Colorado Christian University and is a certified peace officer in the state of Colorado. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has attended numerous seminars, conferences and workshops related to law enforcement and detention center operations. His background in law enforcement goes back to 1970, when he served as a patrolman for the Memphis Police Department.

Chavez is a Doña Ana County native who graduated from Gadsden High School and holds an associate’s degree in fire science from Doña Ana Branch Community College. He is a certified fire instructor and emergency medical technician.

Chavez comes to Doña Ana County from Honeywell Technology Services, where he has been deputy chief of the White Sands Test Facility Fire Department since 1996.

“I’m delighted to have Mr. Wooley and Mr. Chavez on board in these critical positions of leadership within Doña Ana County,” said Haines. “The search process in both cases turned up good candidates, and we were able to hire the best from both areas. Mr. Wooley’s experience and background will help us take our detention center to the next level of operational excellence, while Mr. Chavez’ local knowledge and contacts position him ideally to interact with the county’s 16 volunteer fire departments and the administrative staff that oversees them.”
