RESIDENTS ADVISED TO PICK UP SAND BAGS AT FIRE STATIONS

Doña Ana County residents who need sandbags are asked NOT to call 911. Sandbags are available for pick up at all 16 of Doña Ana County’s volunteer fire stations.

Flooding as a result of today’s storms already has been reported in La Union, Chaparral, Chamberino, Rasaaf Hills and in various communities on the East Mesa above Las Cruces. County crews are on the ground in some areas and prioritizing responses in other areas. None of the flooding reported thus far is characterized as serious or life threatening.

Heavy rains in the area during the monsoon season may require some residents to use sandbags to protect their properties. The Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority regularly alerts Doña Ana County road crews to problem areas, and crews make every attempt to anticipate problems and respond to them in a timely fashion.

Any problems with significant flooding should be reported to the Doña Ana County Office of Emergency Management at (505) 647-7900. During non-office hours, emergencies may be reported to 911, and non-emergencies can be reported to (505) 526-0795.

For more information, call county Public Information Director Jess Williams at (505) 647-7229.
