SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT, SATURATION PATROLS SCHEDULED FOR WEEKEND

The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department will conduct a sobriety checkpoint and saturation patrols this weekend at undisclosed locations in the county.

Deputies will perform the DWI checkpoint Friday from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. and carry out the saturation patrols Saturday from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Patrols will be set up in areas of the county where roads are not accommodating to checkpoints. Other target areas include roads where statistics indicate high numbers of alcohol-related accidents and/or arrests in the past.
In addition, the Sheriff's Department will begin a two-week seatbelt enforcement initiative on May 24. Deemed "Operation Buckle Down," the seat-belt program will result in tickets for drivers of vehicles in which passengers are not wearing seat belts or in which children are not properly secured with child-safety seats.

State grant funding will pay for additional sheriff's personnel to work these projects.
