CHARLES 'CHUCK' McMAHON CHOSEN TO HEAD COUNTY PLANNING DEPARTMENT

Doña Ana County Manager Brian D. Haines has announced that veteran Doña Ana County Planner Chuck McMahon has accepted the position of Planning Department director.

McMahon has been employed as a planner in the department since May of 2000 and has served as Interim Chief Planner since the departure of Wayne Grinnell last January. He was named director on May 12.

McMahon holds a bachelor's degree from Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill., with a double major in public administration and political science. He also holds a master's degree in government from NMSU. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army.

As a senior planner in the department, McMahon has extensive experience in employee supervision, land-use issues, subdivision statutes, zoning regulations, planning analysis, codes compliance and public presentations. As department director, he said he will emphasize a climate of customer service and accountability.

"Chuck McMahon's working knowledge of the growth issues facing Doña Ana County make him the ideal person for this job," Haines said. "I believe having him on board as Planning Director positions the county for continued managed growth and continued good relations with our incorporated municipalities and developers as we work together to plan a viable future for all the residents of Doña Ana County."
