COUNTY HIRES NEW INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT HEAD

Doña Ana County Manager Brian D. Haines has announced the hiring of Anna Peralta Hines as Director of Communications and Information Services.

Hines' first day on the job was Monday, May 10. She oversees a staff of 14 whose collective responsibility is to maintain and improve the county's computer, phone, radio and file-sharing systems. The department also maintains the county's Internet website and assists other departments with technical issues and software training.

Hines holds bachelor's degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso in sociology and criminal justice and a master's degree, also from UTEP, in sociology with a special emphasis on computers and evaluation research. She also is a PhD candidate in information and computer sciences at Nova Southeastern University of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

She has more than 22 years experience in information systems, most recently as president of Universal Solutions for Business Group, Inc., an El Paso company that specializes in information and computer systems for various global companies and educational institutions. From 1990 to 2002, she served as chief information officer for UTEP, where she oversaw a staff of 175 with responsibility for the university's entire infrastructure of computer systems.

"Bringing a person of Anna Hines' experience and education on board as head of Communications and Information Systems is a major accomplishment for Doña Ana County," Haines said. "With Anna's leadership, we'll take the county in bold new directions related to computer and network sophistication in support of the public and all of our departments. She's already hit the ground running to identify the department's strengths and improve service and systems across the board."
