SHERIFF ANNOUNCES 'HAZARDOUS MATERIALS AMNESTY DAY'

The Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department has set aside Saturday, May 8 as Hazardous Materials Amnesty Day in the county.

Residents can call the Sheriff's Department to have any explosives, ammunition, weapons, bomb materials or other hazardous material removed from their property. The Sheriff's Department will dispatch properly equipped officers to remove and destroy the hazardous materials. Collections will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

No criminal charges related to any hazardous materials reported and/or collected will be filed against residents who participate in the program. The program applies to residents throughout Doña Ana County, including those who reside within the incorporated city limits of Las Cruces, Mesilla, Hatch and Sunland Park.

To report hazardous materials on May 8, call the Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority at (505) 526-0795. To arrange May 8 pick-up during business hours in advance of the amnesty date, call the Doña Ana County Sheriff's Department at (505) 525-1911. Dispatchers at either number will request information about the materials to be collected, including the address where the materials are stored. Residents will not be required to give their names.
