Doña Ana County is proposing improvements at the Doña Ana County Airport at Santa Teresa. The contemplated improvements include lengthening, widening and strengthening an existing runway and its taxiway by adding approximately 1,050 feet of new runway at each end, widening the runway 50 feet, reconstructing the base and including more surface paving.

The resulting runway would be 10,600 long and 150 feet wide, with 25 foot paved shoulders. The runway would be able to accommodate Aircraft Design Group Class IV aircraft such as Boeing 767, Lockheed Martin L10-11 or Douglas DC-10. The project will be funded primarily by the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program, with assistance from the New Mexico State Highway and Transportation Department Aviation Division and Doña Ana County.

A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) for the project has been prepared to address social, economic, and environmental impacts. The EA is available for public review at the following locations:

* Office of the County Clerk, 251 W Amador Ave., Las Cruces, NM. 88001

* Branigan Library, 200 E, Picacho Ave., Las Cruces, N.M. 88001

The plan also can be reviewed at the Doña Ana County Airport Manager's Office at 8000 Airport Rd., Santa Teresa, N.M., 88008. If requested, Doña Ana County will hold a public hearing on the proposed airport improvements.
