CHECKPOINT RESULTS IN 8 ARRESTS, 36 CITATIONS

Doña Ana County Sheriff's deputies made eight arrests and issued 36 citations Thursday during a DWI checkpoint on Valley Drive at the city limits just north of Mayfield High School.

Three people were arrested for drunken driving, one for aggravated DWI, two for driving on suspended or revoked licenses related to prior DWIs, one for an outstanding felony warrant and one for possession of marijuana.

Of the 36 citations issued, 24 were for no proof of insurance, three were for not having a license plate and two each were for no proof of registration, not wearing a seat belt, having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. The remaining citation was for having an expired license plate.

Sheriff’s personnel at Thursday’s checkpoint were compensated through Operation DWI grant funding.
