COUNTY HIRES JAIME A. BARI TO LEAD FINANCIAL SERVICES DIVISION

County Manager Brian D. Haines has announced the hiring of Jaime A. Bari as Doña Ana County's new Director of Financial Services. Bari will oversee the county’s departments of Accounting, Finance, Purchasing, Grants and Accounting.

Bari began work Monday, March 8, 2004. Haines said that of all the candidates interviewed, Bari brought the most experience to the table.

“With Jaime on board in this important position, I’m confident that all of the departments associated with managing the county’s finances will be able to more closely coordinate and communicate,” Haines said. “This will enhance service and savings that will help the county face the ever-expanding needs associated with its annual growth.”

Bari earned his bachelor's degree in business and liberal arts from Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minn. He earned his Master's in Business Administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

For the last 10 years, Bari has been Director of Financial Services for Monroe County, New York, where he oversaw a $5 million departmental budget and supervised 39 employees. Prior to that, he owned and operated his own small optical manufacturing business.

Coming from a government financial background, Bari is familiar with the computerized accounting systems, county bond funding issues and governmental general ledgers. He also understands the working relationship between administration and the county Treasurer’s Office, which takes in all property taxes for use by the county and other tax-receiving entities. Bari will play an integral part in coordinating the county’s annual audits and budget processes.

“I’m excited by the prospect of this new challenge,” Bari said. “The county is a dynamic and growing entity whose finances are increasingly complex due to the demands for services and the successful acquisition of federal and state grants. I look forward to working with all of the county departments who depend on the Finance Division for internal services, and I also look forward to helping the elected officials and the general public better understand the county’s financial picture on a regular and periodic basis.”
