COUNTY PLEDGES TO REPAIR VADO/DEL CERRO ROADS

Recent heavy rains combined with utility-line installations in the communities of Vado and del Cerro have resulted in accelerated deterioration of dirt roads throughout the communities.

The Doña Ana County Roads Department will begin repairing and reconstructing all affected roadways in the area within the next 60 days. Roads will be repaired on a prioritized basis by factoring in traffic load, residential density and overall safety concerns.

Steve Decker, Senior Director for Public Works, said part of the road work will be performed by county crews and part of the work will be contracted out. He said emergency funds have been allocated to the project, and the construction process will be accelerated to the greatest possible extent.

"Weather and conditions permitting, we're shooting for a 30-day window to complete the repairs," Decker said. "We forecast a maximum of 60 days to complete the project and return the roads to the condition they were in prior to the construction activity and rain. We have heard the complaints, and we're moving as quickly as possible to address them."
