COSTUMED SHERIFF JUAN HERNANDEZ TO PARTICIPATE IN FUND-RAISER

Doña Ana County Sheriff Juan Hernandez will don an inflatable Miss Piggy costume – complete with a purple tu-tu – and then climb into a dunking booth for a charity event this weekend.

In support of the March of Dimes, Hernandez and other local dignitaries will subject themselves to the indignity of the dunking booth from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Sunday, Nov. 9, in the parking lot of Roberto’s Restaurant at 908 E. Amador Ave.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the local chapter of the March of Dimes. Late last month, the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners declared Nov. 18 to be Prematurity Awareness Day in support of the March of Dimes. The Sunday event is one of a series of events in November designed to raise funds for the organization and promote awareness of the problems and costs associated with premature births.

“There aren’t many organizations that could convince me to put on a Miss Piggy costume in public,” Hernandez said, “but when the March of Dimes asked me to participate in this fundraiser, it was a no-brainer to say yes. I’m happy to support the cause and to compromise my ego a little bit to promote awareness. I just hope it’s warm on Sunday.”
