DETENTION CENTER TO GRADUATE CLASS OF NINE CADETS

County Commissioner Oscar Vásquez Butler will be the featured speaker when the Doña Ana County Detention Center graduates nine new detention officer cadets on Friday, Nov. 7. The ceremony also will feature introduction and recognition of three Detention Center officers who recently returned from active duty in Iraq as part of the U.S. Army Reserve 281st Transportation Company.

Officers Sonja Marmolejo, Benjamin Griego and Jose Moreno will be recognized for their service in the Iraq war and then formally welcomed back by their colleagues and supervisors as a separate part of the graduation ceremony.

The graduating cadets satisfactorily completed the six-week Basic Detention Officers’ Academy, which consists of physical training, classroom instruction and field experience. All training is done in-house at the county’s detention center.

Commencement will be held at the Las Cruces Elks Lodge on Friday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. The Elks Lodge is located on Elks Drive a few blocks west of Highway 70.
