MOTORCYCLE CRASH RESULTS IN FATALITY, INJURY

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department deputies are investigating a motorcycle crash that left a soldier dead and his passenger injured Sunday night.

Emergency crews responded to the 11300 block of Doña Ana Road shortly after 7 p.m. The driver of the motorcycle was unofficially pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger was treated and airlifted to Thomason General Hospital in El Paso for multiple injuries.

The name of the driver is being withheld until his family is notified. The passenger, 19-year-old Natasha Elliott of Las Cruces, is in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Thomason General. Elliott was wearing a helmet, but the driver of the motorcycle was not.

Preliminary analyses of the evidence indicate alcohol was not a factor of the crash. Investigators believe the driver lost control while traveling approximately 50 miles per hour through a 40-mph curve on Doña Ana Road.

Investigators said they hope to question the driver’s parents about his riding experience, but they reported the driver had a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license. The motorcycle involved was bought only days before the crash.
