RESULTS OF APRIL 17 SHERIFF’S SATURATION PATROL

Doña Ana County Sheriff Juan Hernandez implemented a saturation patrol in the Hatch village area Thursday, April 17, 2003.

Using Operation DWI grant funds, the sheriff paid overtime to put extra deputies on the road for the saturation patrol.
Deputies made two arrests and issued 44 citations. One of the two arrests was on a charge of driving under the influence. The other arrest was for an outstanding warrant. Among the citations, 12 were issued for speeding, nine for improper equipment and six for lack of proof of insurance.

Patrols were set up in the Hatch area where roads are not accommodating to checkpoints. Other target areas included roads where statistics indicate high numbers of alcohol-related accidents and/or arrests in the past.
