SECOND SUSPECT CHARGED IN MONDAY’S CARJACKING

The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department arrested a second person suspected of assisting in a Monday carjacking in the Picacho Hills Country Club area.

Luis Victor Aguilar, 19, was arrested Tuesday morning at 1550 1/2 W. Picacho Ave. and has been charged with one count of armed robbery, unlawful taking of a vehicle, aggravated assault with intent to commit a violent felony and aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Center on a surety bond of $80,000.

At about 2 p.m. March 3, the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 6700 block of Camino Blanco in the Picacho Hills Country Club residential area. A 71-year-old resident told police a young man in a white Chevrolet pickup truck parked in front of his residence and approached the house. The youth entered the man’s garage asking for directions to the country club. During the course of the conversation, the youth allegedly pulled out a knife and took the keys to the senior’s 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. The driver of the white pickup fled behind the Suburban.

Sammy Sanchez, 20, was arrested by investigators Monday while he reportedly was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban on Interstate Highway 10. Sanchez faces similar charges in addition to a charge of possession of marijuana.
