SALEM MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION TO SHOOTING

A Salem man was arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly shooting a rifle from a moving car at the occupants of another vehicle.

Jose Alanise, 18, of the 500 block of Hayes St., was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault. Each of the charges is a fourth-degree felony. He is being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Center on a $40,000 surety bond.

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department deputies recovered a .22-caliber rifle and cartridges from the suspect’s car. Five spent .22-caliber casings were found at the scene and were of the same brand as those found in the suspect’s car.

The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department is searching for the driver of the vehicle from which the shooter allegedly fired the rifle. Anyone with information about this crime can call Crime Stoppers at 526-8000.
