CHAPARRAL GEARING UP FOR DELORES WRIGHT PARK DEDICATION CEREMONY

CHAPARRAL, N.M. – Community leaders are putting the finishing touches on a day-long event, Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, to dedicate the newly constructed Delores Wright Community Park at 400 E. Lisa Dr.

The grand opening of the park will occur at 2 p.m., with a variety of events scheduled, including skateboard exhibitions, dancing, flag football, arts and crafts, jumping balloons, clowns and live music.

A formal dedication of the park is scheduled for 4 p.m., with District 3 County Commissioner Paul B. Curry, District 2 County Commissioner Arturo C. Terrazas and State Rep. Joseph Cervantes invited to speak, among other dignitaries and the park’s architects. Many members of the late Rep. Delores Wright’s family and closest circle of friends also will be on hand.

Free hotdogs, hamburgers, chips and soda will be provided beginning at 5 p.m., and performances by the U.S. Amateur Dance Association will commence at 7 p.m. followed by local artist dancers performing traditional and classic dances. A public dance will commence after the dance performances.
