PROCESSION OF FLAGS TO AUGMENT SEPT. 11 CEREMONY

PROCESSION OF FLAGS TO AUGMENT SEPT. 11 CEREMONY

The Second Annual Las Cruces Procession of Flags will take place Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, as part of the “We Remember…” commemoration of the victims, survivors and heroes who found themselves part of the most deadly terror attacks ever inflicted on American soil.

Volunteer participants in the procession will begin to gather at 4 p.m. in two groups: one will form in the dirt parking lot southwest of Aggie Memorial Stadium; the other will form in the dirt lot east of the stadium. Both groups will march south down Payne Street before entering the stadium at the south entrance.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own flags, with the provision that flagpoles must be no longer than 18 inches. No metal flagpoles (of any size) will be allowed.

Participation in the procession is voluntary and open to all members of the public. The idea behind the procession is to recreate the unity of American spirit that pervaded the country in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks and to send a local, regional and national message of continued unity.
