ROBERT ARMIJO PROMOTED TO CHIEF ENGINEER POSITION AT DOÑA ANA COUNTY

Doña Ana County Manager David R. King has announced that Robert Armijo has been promoted to the position of county engineer.

Armijo has worked in the county’s Infrastructure and Public Works Department since last October, when he was hired as an engineer intern. His performance, coupled with his education and experience in the field, prompted Senior Director Steve Decker to offer the county engineer’s position to Armijo when the position was vacated.

A New Mexico native, Armijo is a graduate of New Mexico State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1996. He also is a graduate of Socorro High School.

As county engineer, Armijo will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and supervising various engineering and surveying activities undertaken by the county’s transportation, Community Development and other departments. The county engineer also performs a wide variety of specialized engineering and administrative tasks in support of the directives of senior county management.

Prior to coming to work for Doña Ana County, Armijo was employed as an engineering intern in subdivision design, residential/commercial site design and surveys for Roe Engineering of El Paso. He also worked for Smith Engineering of Roswell as an engineering intern specializing in materials laboratories, CDBG implementation, project estimations and general land development. He also is a four-year veteran of the U.S. Army, and he is a two-time recipient of the Army Commendation Medal.

“Robert’s experience, education and his impressive track record with the county put him in an ideal position to take over the duties of county engineer,” Decker said. “County residents will reap the benefit of his skill set and professional training in substantial ways.”
