ENTITIES, AGENCIES COLLABORATE TO CAPITALIZE ON RANKINGS

Doña Ana County, the City of Las Cruces and New Mexico State University have teamed up with a number of public and private entities to stage a press conference on National Small Cities Day, Friday, June 14, 2002, at 1:30 p.m.

The press conference will be held in the General Dynamics Spaceplex, 4600 Research Drive Circle, on the NMSU campus. The purpose of the event will be to unveil a community-based effort aimed at luring new business and economic development to the area based on recent rankings by Forbes and Money magazines.

Representatives of the public and private sector will be on hand for interviews following brief remarks by Las Cruces Mayor Rubén Smith, County Commission Chairman D. Kent Evans and NMSU President Jay Gogue. Retired astronaut and prominent Las Cruces business leader Frank Borman will be unable to attend, but he has agreed to be the official spokesman for the campaign once it gets underway.

At the press conference, a logo will be unveiled that area businesses and government entities will be encouraged to incorporate into their outgoing correspondences, business cards and other promotional materials, spreading the word that the Las Cruces metropolitan area was chosen 2002's best small city for business by Forbes Magazine and among the six top places to live by Money Magazine.
