COUNTY TO TEST NEW GENERATORS FOR COMPUTER BACK-UP CAPABILITY

Doña Ana County’s computer systems will be unavailable to both internal and external users this Friday, April 12, 2002, from about 5:15 p.m. until about 6:30 p.m.

The planned outage will allow the county’s Information Systems staff to test new generators that have been purchased and installed to keep the system running in the event of a localized power outage.

“This is our first planned test of many for this system,” said Information Systems Director Raymond Long. “We’re excited about this new equipment, and we look forward to ensuring that all critical computer information is secure and protected. This includes being able to recover from an electrical power outage. As we continue to enhance our computer environment’s stability and security, we will start scheduling these maintenance tests during off-hours and on the weekends. For the first few tests, we will have the vendor on hand as a precaution, so that we can recover quickly if something unexpected should happen.”
