SCHOOLS TAKE PART IN EASTER BASKET CONTEST/GIVE-AWAY

Eleven classes from seven area high schools and a Las Cruces middle school are participating in a program by which Easter baskets were designed and created for donation to the Las Cruces Nursing Center, La Casa, Hacienda del Sol, the Gospel Rescue Mission and selected other area social-service agencies.

Funded by the New Mexico Department of Health’s Behavioral Health Service Division and coordinated locally by the South Central New Mexico Prevention Coalition, the contest and give-away program was conceived as a way to familiarize high school students with area social-services entities and the people who utilize their facilities and programs.

The Easter baskets will be judged and distributed at 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2002, at the South Central New Mexico Prevention Coalition Offices at 136 S. Water St. in Las Cruces. Deliveries to the recipient agencies will begin at 3 p.m.

Classes from Deming High School, Gadsden High School, Hatch High School, Mayfield High School, Oñate High School, Picacho Middle School, San Andres High School and Santa Teresa High School participated.
