COMMISSIONER D. KENT EVANS NAMED CHAIR OF NACO LABOR SUBCOMMITTEE

Doña Ana County Commission Vice Chairman D. Kent Evans has been named chair of the National Association of Counties’ Labor Subcommittee, which reports to the NACo Labor and Employee Benefits Steering Committee.
Evans, who represents Commission District 4, was notified of the appointment in a letter from NACo President Javier M. Gonzales dated Sept. 24.
“President Gonzales has made it clear to me that he will be calling on steering committees to take a leading role in increasing grassroots involvement in NACo lobbying efforts,” Evans said. “I have committed my leadership skills to him in an effort to advance his ambitious agenda for the organization.”
The Labor and Employment Steering Committee addresses issues related to employer-employee relations, equal employment opportunity, collective bargaining, fringe benefits, workers’ compensation and occupational safety and health. It is one of 11 NACo committees charged with examining issues critical to local government.
Recommendations made by the steering committees are presented each year to the NACo membership for a vote. Generally, the goal of each committee is to present a county point of view on national issues and to advance public understanding of the role of counties in the governmental process.
