UNIDAD PARK GROUNDBREAKING SET FOR 9-13-01

Doña Ana County Commission Chairman Gilbert T. Apodaca will be among the dignitaries on hand for the Unidad Park groundbreaking ceremonies on the corner of Hermosa Street and Hadley Avenue in Las Cruces on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m.
Las Cruces Mayor Rubén A. Smith will emcee the groundbreaking ceremony. Following the groundbreaking, construction of the new park will begin.
Along with Apodaca, rolling up their sleeves and pounding in nails will be County Manager David R. King, Smith, Las Cruces City Manager Jim Ericson, and 150 children from local elementary schools. Materials and equipment used to erect the park will be in place for the start of construction, which will run through Sept. 23.
Also in attendance will be members of the Las Cruces City Council, the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners and the Unidad Park Steering Committee. Apodaca said residents from across the county are invited to attend the groundbreaking and then stay to offer their assistance in getting the construction phase underway for the first community-built park in Doña Ana County’s county seat, Las Cruces.
