COUNTY PREPARES TO HOST 700+ REPRESENTATIVES FROM 33 COUNTIES

As the host county for the 2001 New Mexico Association of Counties (NMAC) Summer Conference, Doña Ana County is in the final stages of preparations for the four-day event, which begins next Tuesday, June 5, at 10 a.m. with early-bird registration at Mayfield High School.
According to conference coordinator Mary DeLorenzo of NMAC, more than 700 pre-registrations already have been received, and past experience indicates that an additional 50-70 people will register at the conference opening.
All of the workshops offered to conference attendees will be held at Mayfield High School. Special events also will be held at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, Sonoma Ranch Golf Course, Court Youth Center, Sertoma Club, Rodeo USA, Mesilla Valley Best Western Inn and the Las Cruces Hilton.
Guest speakers and performers during the event include motivational speaker Bob Ross, National Association of Counties President C. Vernon Gray, local novelist Denise Chavez and local magician Jamie O’Hara. In addition, the Fort Selden Color Guard and the Tierra del Encanto dancing troupe will perform. Local Mariachi entertainment by Espuelas de Plata also has been scheduled.
Workshops at MHS will focus on issues related to worker’s compensation, county insurance, finance, purchasing, law, county management, personnel and a host of other pertinent areas.
