COMMISSION APPROVES PRELIMINARY BUDGET

The Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners has approved a preliminary 2001/2002 budget that includes more than $1.8 million for health-care programs across the county and nearly a half-million dollars for non-health-related programs, including youth and senior recreation initiatives.
According to the preliminary budget, the following health-care programs were approved for funding at the indicated levels.

La Clinica Health Clinics - $630,000
Indigent Hospital - 300,000
Ambulance Service (AMR) - 273,000
Ben Archer Health Clinics - 247,500
Mesilla Valley Hospice - 243,000
Hatch Ambulance Service - 80,000
Saferide (non-emergency transport service) - 63,000
St. Lukes Clinic - 29,430
Indigent burial services - 3,000
In non-health related programs, the commission approved preliminary budgets for the following agencies at the amounts indicated below.

Doña Ana County Extension Office - $108,243
Las Cruces Metro Narcotics - 100,000
Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance - 65,000
Las Cruces Bookmobile - 42,925
Gadsden Recreation - 30,000
Quality Senior Center Services - 27,500
County Fair Board - 20,000
Hatch Recreation - 20,000
South Central Planning & Development - 9,314
Anthony Library - 6,000
Hatch Library - 6,000
Families and youth, Inc. - 5,000
Foster Grandparents Program - 5,000
Mesilla Valley CSA - 5,000
DAC Soil and Water Conservation District - 5,000
Big Brothers and Big Sisters - 3,000
Doña Ana County Special Olympics - 3,000
KRWG Public Television (NMSU) - 2,500
Senior Companion Project - 2,500
Sunland Park Recreation - 2,500
Doña Ana County Senior Olympics - 2,000
County Commission Chairman Gilbert T. Apodaca emphasized the preliminary nature of the county budget at this point, and he invited agencies who believe they have been underfunded to state their case for more funding at the Commission’s May 22 meeting, which will be held at 5 p.m. in the Commission Chambers of the Doña Ana County Courthouse at 351 W. Amador Ave., in Las Cruces.
