ANTONIO ACOSTA TO TAKE INTERNAL AFFAIRS INVESTIGATOR POSITION

A veteran law enforcement officer and investigator has been hired as the new Internal Affairs Investigator for Doña Ana County.
Antonio Acosta of Claremont, Calif., will enter the newly created position on April 23, 2001. His annual salary will be $31,200.
As Internal Affairs Investigator, Acosta will handle all administrative investigations in the county, including the detention center, associated with complaints and allegations of misconduct. He also will coordinate investigations for all other county departments, including complaints from individuals.
County Manager David R. King said he expects that having an Internal Affairs Investigator on board will reduce the county’s overall liability and increase internal responsiveness to allegations of misconduct and failures to follow policy.
Acosta attended both the Union Institute of Los Angeles, where he majored in criminal justice, and San Bernadino Community College in San Bernadino, Calif., where he studied criminal justice. He is a 1990 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in El Paso.
Since 1993, Acosta has been employed by the Claremont, Calif., Police Department, most recently as a police officer assigned to the administration division as the department’s background investigator and training officer. He also has worked as a patrol officer and evidence custodian.
Acosta is a member of the following organizations: California Background Investigators; California Association of Police Training Officers; Northeast Training Officers; California Narcotics Officers; and California Peace Officers Association. He also holds a number of investigative, first-aid and law-enforcement certifications.
King said Acosta will report directly to the county manager, adding that Acosta’s background and experience “will allow him to hit the ground running for us and help us move forward in making all county operations more accountable to the taxpayers.”
