GOVERNORS OF NEW MEXICO, CHIHUAHUA TO MEET AT SANTA TERESA

The governors of the State of New Mexico in the United States and of the State of Chihuahua in the Republic of Mexico will meet Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at the Santa Teresa/San Jeronimo Border Crossing.
The objective of the meeting will be to promote New Mexico/Chihuahua relations and to discuss ongoing construction of a 17-mile-long, four-lane highway bypass on the Mexican side to serve the Port of Entry serving Santa Teresa in the United States and San Jeronimo in Mexico.
The event calls for casual clothing. The press is encouraged to attend with credentials. Otherwise, attendance is by invitation only. About 200 Mexican and U.S. dignitaries are expected at the event. All those in attendance will have to cross over to Mexico for the ceremonies. Immediately after crossing into Mexico, take the first road to the left and follow it to the cattle-crossing quarantine. Please bear in mind that Mexican law prohibits ANY guns or ammunition from entering the country. Vehicles are subject to search.
The agenda for the day is as follows:
11:30 a.m. Arrival by Gov. Gary Johnson and Gov. Patricio Martinez at Doña Ana County International Airport in Santa Teresa.
11:40 a.m. Both governors depart for Union de Ganadera de Chihuahua cattle crossing quarantine station at San Jeronimo-Santa Teresa on the Mexican side.
11:55 a.m. Private meeting between Governors Johnson and Martinez at Union de Ganadera.
12:10 p.m. State of Chihuahua will make a chart presentation to Gov. Johnson and staff pertaining to the bypass project.
12:30 p.m. A formal press conference is not contemplated, however, at end of the by-pass presentation, a brief and informal question/answer period for the press will be permitted.
12:45 p.m. Both governors will be taken by Mexican helicopter for a flyover of the bypass construction.
1:15 p.m. Return to the Union de Ganadera de Chihuahua quarantine station in San Jeronimo-Santa Teresa.
1:20 p.m. Lunch in honor of Gov. Johnson, featuring an official welcome by representatives of the Chihuahua government and comments by Gov. Martinez. Gov. Johnson will be given the opportunity to make some brief remarks, as well.
3:00 p.m. Both governors return to the Dona Ana County International Airport in Santa Teresa.
3:20 p.m. Adjournment and governors’ departures.
