REMINDER: DETENTION CENTER HOSTS JUVENILE HOLIDAY FEST; MEDIA, PUBLIC INVITED

The holiday season traditionally is viewed as a time for children. The staff at the Doña Ana County Detention Center will strive, for the ninth consecutive year, to bring some of the traditional holiday cheer to the juveniles who are being detained locally.

On Friday, Dec. 17, from 1 - 4 p.m., the public and the media will be invited to a holiday celebration featuring a talent show and holiday carols performed by the incarcerated juveniles. The talent show will be coordinated by Officer Bill Varola, while the singing will be led by Officer Audrey Beamon.

Donations of food, books, videos and other appropriate gifts for the juvenile detainees are encouraged. All the food will be used for a pot-luck luncheon the afternoon of the event. Books and videos will be placed into the Detention Center’s juvenile library/classroom. For more information about appropriate gifts, call Lt. Pat Ross at (505) 647-7680.

If you would like to attend this event, please call in advance. In order to have adequate security on hand, the Detention Center staff must have an accurate headcount prior to the event. The number to call for a reservation is (505) 647-7680.

PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY: Although media photographers will be allowed into the facility for this event, no photographs will be authorized in which any detained juvenile(s) can be identified. Creative use of the camera will allow the media to capture the spirit of the event without violating the privacy of the detainees. Detention Center staff will be on hand to provide guidance.
