LT. CHERYL ROACH NAMED INTERIM ADMINISTRATOR OF COUNTY DETENTION CENTER

Lt. Cheryl Roach has been named interim administrator of the Doña Ana County Detention Center. Roach will fill the position vacated by Jeffery Garbow’s resignation, which became effective Oct. 1.

Doña Ana County Manager Fernando R. Macias said Roach brings to the interim position an impressive amount of energy, institutional knowledge and the respect of her fellow officers and supervisors.

The county advertised the post nationally and accepted applications during the month of September for a permanent administrator. Those applications, Macias said, are in the hands of a selection committee, and interviews are being scheduled. He said he is hopeful that a permanent administrator will be named later this month.

“We’re going to conduct a thorough and exhaustive selection process,” Macias said. “We’re fortunate to have a person of Lt. Roach’s professionalism and experience to run the institution until that process is complete.”

The Detention Center is located at 1850 Copper Loop in Las Cruces, just west of 17th Street and north of Amador Avenue.
