FLOODING ALONG RIO GRANDE PROMPTS FEDERAL WARNING

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation has issued a warning to residents of Doña Ana County regarding flood conditions along the Rio Grande.

Heavy rains in areas north of Doña Ana County have filled the riverbed to capacity. Forecasts calling for more rain could mean more flooding to homes, farms, businesses and parks near the river.

Officials advise against driving through any moving waters. Also, be on the alert for rodents and snakes, who also will seek high ground during flooding.

In addition to property damage, the flood waters represent a threat to people and animals. Residents are advised to stay clear of the areas between the river levees until the river has resumed normal flow levels. Keeping pets and livestock away from these areas also is recommended.
