US WEST LINE PROBLEMS DISRUPT PHONE SERVICE TO COUNTY MANAGER’S COMPLEX

A problem blamed on wet transmission lines is disrupting calls to the Doña Ana County Manager’s Complex.

Sandra Medina, a communications specialist with the county, said US West was notified of the problem mid-morning Wednesday, July 28, and had crews looking into the problem almost immediately. She said the US West crews believe that the main line coming into the Manager’s Complex is being hampered by moisture, causing all incoming calls to be answered with a busy signal.

County Manager Fernando Macias said he is satisfied that US West is moving quickly to resolve the problem. He said residents with pressing business should call the Information Systems Office at (505) 647-7447, where messages will be taken and relayed regularly to appropriate offices in the Manager’s Complex.

In addition to the main county switchboard at (505) 647-7200, the following offices also have been affected: County Manager, Legal, Risk Management, Purchasing, Finance, Public Information, Human Resources and the Physical Plant Department.

Lines to the County Courthouse, Judicial Complex, County Annex, Road Department and other buildings were not affected.

“We anticipate this will be a short-term problem, and we ask the public to be patient while US West identifies and repairs the affected lines,” Macias said.
