STATEMENT FROM COUNTY MANAGER FERNANDO MACIAS RE: UTILITIES DEPARTMENT

“The County Board of Commissioners recognized the massive amount of work that was being performed by various individuals throughout the county to coordinate a number of vital utility projects for residents ranging from Salem to Santa Teresa. Given the importance of this work and the amount of time necessary to devote to it, the Commission authorized creation of a new department devoted solely to utility development.

“We are fortunate to have a director of Jerry Leyendecker’s experience and energy to head the department. The addition of Albert Racelis as associate director adds historical knowledge of the county’s utility work over the past several years. Albert has been involved in our utility efforts for years in his former capacity as assistant director of community development. During that time, he and Renata Manning of the Grants Department and Cesar Ramos in the Flood Control Department, among others, have worked closely on a number of projects. Jerry and Albert will be able to build on that teamwork to streamline existing projects and lay detailed plans for future projects that will serve all the residents of Doña Ana County by helping to protect groundwater and provide services for industry and residents.”
