COUNTY HIRES HERMAN MARTINEZ AS HEALTH PROGRAMS DIRECTOR

Herman Martinez has been hired as Doña Ana County’s new health programs director.

A native of Las Vegas, N.M., Martinez comes to the county with a wealth of health-care and management experience in the United States Public Health Service. Martinez has expertise in social services, health outreach, health promotion and education, and health issues related to indigent populations. He also is familiar with budgeting, programming, planning and evaluation.

County Manager Fernando R. Macias said Martinez brings to the county “a skill set that will allow him to take the office we currently know as Indigent Health Care Services and help it evolve into a more wide-ranging and active component of health-care delivery in Doña Ana County.”

Martinez said he is grateful for the opportunity to make the county’s health-care operation more pro-active in partnership with other area health agencies and entities.

“We have limited resources to work with and we must maximize the results we can derive from those resources,” he said. “By acting in concert with other agencies, we can establish linkages and networks that will ultimately make the most of every health-care dollar that comes from both federal and state funding sources.”

As director of health programs, Martinez will earn $42,000 per year. His office is located on the first floor of the Doña Ana County Courthouse at 251 W. Amador Ave.
