COUNTY SEEKS APPLICANTS TO SERVE ON PLANNING & ZONING COMMISSION

Applicants are being sought by the Doña Ana County Board of Commissioners for appointment to the County Planning and Zoning Commission to fill the unexpired term of Herman Ortiz (until April 30, 2000).

According to County Manager Fernando Macias, each applicant should have an interest in the development trends and standards for Doña Ana County. DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS IS 5 p.m. FRIDAY, FEB. 5, 1999.

The duties of the Planning and Zoning Commission are to review and recommend zone changes, variances , subdivisions and development-related ordinance amendments to the Board of County Commissioners. The jurisdiction of the County Planning and Zoning Commission is outside the city limits of Las Cruces, Mesilla, Hatch and Sunland Park, and outside the limits of the extra-territorial zone that encircles Las Cruces.

The Planning and Zoning Commission consists of seven residents appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Members of the commission serve without pay and are expected to attend meetings on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in the Doña Ana County Courthouse.

Staff support for the commission is provided by the county’s departments of Community Development,
Transportation, Legal Affairs and the office of the Fire Marshal.
