COUNTY CREWS PREPARE FOR PAVING PROJECT IN LAS ALTURAS ESTATES

Armed with $75,000 in state funds secured in the last legislative session by Rep. Dolores Wright, Doña Ana County paving crews are gearing up for a major project in Las Alturas Estates.
George Avalos, director of the county’s road and transportation department, said the county will provide in-kind services as a match for the state’s money once paving begins on Sotol Drive and Tabosa Road.
Avalos said each roadbed will receive two 30-inch lanes of paving. Sotol Drive, he said, will be paved first, beginning at the west end, where it meets the Las Cruces City limits just off Las Alturas Drive, and continuing east to the junction with Tabosa Road. Tabosa Road, he said, will be paved from south to north.
Avalos estimated the project will take at least two months, depending on favorable weather. He said construction is scheduled to begin on the project in late October or early November.
