WILLIAMS BROUGHT ON AS COUNTY PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER

Doña Ana County Manager Fernando R. Macias has announced the hiring of Las Cruces native Jess C. Williams as the county’s new public information officer.

Williams, 39, holds a master’s degree in communication studies and a bachelor’s degree in journalism, both from New Mexico State University. He has 12 years’ experience in the newspaper industry, with 10 of those as editor in chief.

He most recently was employed by the NMSU Communications Office as a newswriter. He edited The Taos News from 1991 to 1995, before moving back to Las Cruces to pursue his master’s degree. He also has edited newspapers in Raton, N.M., Stephenville, Texas, and at NMSU.

His family has been active in the Mesilla Valley since 1924.

“We have needed a person to help communicate the important work of Doña Ana County,” Macias said. “The creation of this position and the appointment of Jess Williams to fill it puts the county in a solid position to move forward as a partner with the media and the public. I have confidence we can now get our message out and show the community how hard we’re working to deliver the maximum amount of efficiency for each dollar entrusted to us as a governmental entity.”

Williams’ office is in the County Manager’s Complex at 180 W. Amador Ave. in Las Cruces. His direct phone line is (505) 647-7229.
